‘Guava de Artist’ or more popularly known as just ‘Guava’ born Ron Howell is a Concept artist/illustra- tor/visual artist/toy maker who says he has been interested in art since birth and draws his inspiration from life and everything around him.
He started drawing from the time he could hold a pen and as years went by, became more interested in the art world because there were so many avenues in the art business. From primary school all the way to high school he kept on drawing. After high school he attended college for video production because art school was too expensive. After he graduated from college Guava worked as a cartoonist for the Sun Printing and Publishing after that company closed he started his own company/art lifestyle brand Guava De Art (located in Redcliffe Quay).
When asked if he believed that Antiguans and Barbudans can compete within the Global Market within his Industry? His response was an instantaneous,”Yes! Because we have talented people but we do not have a platform to display or export our great goods and services” He also hopes that one day the twin island state will have its own Creative Arts Centre and wishes to see more art fairs and exhibitions being hosted.
One of his favourite memories is designing the winning design for the major clothing company STAPLE Design. In the near future, Guava hopes to expand his business and open more ‘Guava de Art’ locations.
